NBA Twitter had fun at the expense of Giannis Antetokounmpo as the Milwaukee Bucks lost to the Toronto Raptors on Thursday.
After a strong start to the 2020-21 campaign, the Milwaukee Bucks are falling back down to earth at rapid speed. Things started to go downhill once point guard Jrue Holiday was sidelined after entering health and safety protocols. Entering Thursday night’s game against the Toronto Raptors, the Bucks held a four-game losing streak and hoped they could snap it.
The Bucks lost to the Raptors 110-96 on Thursday, extending their losing streak to five games. Even star Giannis Antetokounmpo could not help. If you wanted a visual of just how bad the night was for Giannis, look no further than him getting crossed up by Raptors guard Fred VanVleet for an easy layup.
NBA Twitter had a field day as a result of that play, while also poking fun at Antetokounmpo for choosing to sign a super-max extension with the team.
Giannis’ bad night
Perhaps the most telling visual of them all is seeing Giannis’ brother, Thanasis, openly cringing while watching VanVleet cross him over from the sidelines. Yikes.
Antetokoummpo finished the night by scoring a team-high 23 points, grabbing 12 rebounds, dishing out 8 assists and recording 2 steals, while shooting 8-for-20 from the field and 0-for-4 from the 3-point line. That, and Antetokounmpo turned the ball over six times.
Prior to signing his five-year, $228.2 million contract extension, Antetokounmpo was set to hit free agency at the conclusion of this season. That is why fans were virtually dunking on him for choosing to re-sign with the Bucks instead of joining a team like the Raptors or the Golden State Warriors to increase his chances of winning an NBA title. But hey, $228.2 million is a lot of money to turn down.
The Bucks will look to get back in the win column on Friday night when they face the Oklahoma City Thunder. A word of advice we would like to give Giannis Antetokounmpo is to avoid social media at all costs.
