Warriors forward Draymond Green had fun with Grayson Allen when he missed a technical foul free throw, sparking a Golden State run against the Grizzlies.
Draymond Green knows better than anyone how to get under the other team’s skin. He showed that on Saturday with a technical and a shout.
Grayson Allen stepped up to take the foul shot. No one was happier than Green when the shot was missed.
The best part of the video is how the announcers credit the Warriors for calming Green down with a huddle during the free throw. It didn’t stop the veteran from very audibly reacting to the loss in the most typical Draymond fashion.
It’s even better knowing Allen has been dubbed a Draymond Green-type player in the past.
Here’s the thing: Green’s antics often work. They certainly did in the second quarter.
Before the technical, Golden State trailed 40-33. Following the technical, the Warriors went on an 18-9 run. They went into the half leading 51-49.
Draymond Green continues to make his mark with the Warriors
Even though his scoring has gone down, Green is having a typical season in terms of influence. He’s averaging 6.1 points, 6.4 rebounds, 8.6 assists, and 1.4 steals per game at 31 years old. He leads the Warriors in those latter three categories.
It’s been up to Stephen Curry and Green to hold down the fort while waiting for Klay Thompson to get healthy.
Golden State will need Curry’s scoring and Green’s leadership to make the playoffs this season. They are currently out of the field of eight in the Western Conference, but only just. With a 22-20 record, they sit just behind the Dallas Mavericks for the eighth spot.
So long as the occasional technical and troll help ignite the team, Green should keep it up.
